Transportation

The NJEC’s Coordinated Transportation Service provides safe, professional, cost effective service to schools to meet their in-school and afterschool needs. The NJEC and its partners assure that all drivers are familiar with their routes, that vehicles are clean and safe, have seat belts, are equipped with two-way communicative devices, and are insured according to New Jersey State Regulations. All NJEC bus contracts are required to have $3 million in liability insurance.

Drivers are licensed and fingerprinted, and undergo criminal background checks. The bid specifications include penalties for bus companies that do not provide bus drivers with proper endorsements or vehicles for student transportation. Bus companies are penalized for late arrivals, missed routes and lack of two-way communication devices. Any parent concern is addressed within 48 hours.

Transportation requests for special education, public and nonpublic students, field trips, and athletics are accommodated within 48 hours of notification. Students needing a wheelchair lift and restraints are accommodated. All bus contractors provide secure doors and special equipment as required by law or bid specifications including: seatbelts/harnesses, car seats, ambulances, and we/MET as required.
